David Charkham

Client: David Charkham is an addiction recovery coach based in London. He says that “recovery gives you freedom from the chains of addiction and also permission to be comfortable in your own skin.” His care, support and stylish approach to recovery is often demanded from the music industry elite, most recently by Ozzy Osbourne of Black Sabbath. David started out as an actor and appeared in many West End musicals, most notably Hair and Jesus Christ Superstar in the 1970s. His most recent appearance was in The Imitation Game (2014) with Benedict Cumberbatch and Keira Knightley.

Challenge: Although David was well known to the elite of the entertainment industry he wanted to reach out to a wider audience. His challenge was to build an online presence but he wanted more than a simple website. Our solution was to film David at home and in Battersea Park telling his untold stories. This wealth of material enabled us to build him a personal website on Vimeo. The site highlights three videos in which he discusses different aspects of addiction, including his own fascinating story of tackling addiction. We also edited and improved his presentation page on Linked In.

Result: David now gets a lot of work from rehab clinics around the world, where he advises on the challenges of re-entering daily routines after life in a highly structured rehab clinic. He has worked as an addiction recovery coach for some of the world’s top rehab clinics, including Castle Craig Hospital, Lifeworks, The Priory, Laana (Thailand) and Crossroads (Antigua). “I use the web page that Untold Stories did for me as a living business card,” said David Charkham in March 2016. “When talking to people around the world I send them the link. It says a million words.”

This is a unique website which will require a more modern browser to work!
